Escapades of the #FitDoc…

Check out the deets from my latest competition Antelope Valley Natural Championships!

I came back to sunny California to compete in the 5th annual Antelope Valley Natural Championships presented by the incomparable fitness queen, Ruby Carter-Pikes. πŸ‘‘πŸ˜˜πŸ˜Ž

This was now my sixth show with the Musclemania organization. I stuck in with my training and did my competition in the Figure category. πŸ’ͺπŸ‘™

This time around, I really utilized strength and functional training. Recovery and flexibility came up through my work with BUTI yoga, heyyy, LOL!

My lovely daughter begged to join me on this trip. After much consideration, I gave in for her to come enjoy the chaos that is a Bodybuilding show.

We flew  early out of Atlanta to dodge traffic early Thursday morning. We got our bags, and it probably  took an hour and a half to get our rental car. (Shout out to Sakura rental for coming through in a clutch)! With all of this going on Lorrie Lean flight landed and we picked her up from the airport. We were famished for food and went to Fishbar on Manhattan Beach! The food was delicious and we walked the beautiful beach taking in amazing scenery of the Pacific ocean!

We left just in time to deal with the horrendous L.A. traffic.πŸš•πŸšœπŸš—πŸ˜‘πŸš“πŸš’πŸšπŸš‘πŸ˜΅

By the time we got settled in to my room, all we could do was crash in the bed and stretch out.

Friday was nothing but all necessary measures to prep for the show. I traveled with Mya and fellow competitor Marlene to Rancho Cucamonga to get our posing suits right and tight at Fresh Peaches Swimwear (http://fresh-peaches.com/ ).

πŸ‘πŸ‘™πŸ‘™πŸ’“ This is the best craftmenship I have ever seen on so many beautiful suits!

After a long drive and rest the nails were done that evening.πŸ’…

Late night posing, but I do regret not getting to the gym one last time before the stage. Sometimes there’s just not enough time…

Saturday is the show day and we got out early for tan and makeup! I had to go to my ZenπŸ•‰ place to stay calm in the midst of choas. I was so impressed with Mya because she remains the most chill of everyone the entire day! We did an impromptu photo shoot and she was a natural in front of the camera!

Fast forward ⏩ to my moment on stage, the lights are up, they call my name, and I look and feel absolutely amazing! As they read my bio, I walk to my mark, and feel the pull off the stage… No literally! My heel got caught in the groove towards the front! All I could think of is “please don’t fall”! It felt like slow motion and all of the air had left my body. There’s nothing graceful in this moment, or so I thought. Praise God for experience and presence of mind, I pull off the stumble right into my next pose. The audience clapped for me and the show went on. Mya was backstage to kiss me right as I went back out for our call out and comparison.

I came out with a second place win and I am grateful all things considered. I talked to a few judges to get critiques on what I need to work on for my next go round on stage. I got some great feedback.

Sunday, we ate breakfast, visited friends, and spent the rest of our day at Six Flags 😎 for Easter! (Bugs Bunny was there, yayyy πŸ’ƒπŸ™ŒπŸ˜πŸ˜˜πŸ˜Š)!

Funny thing happened on the way to the airport for our return on Monday. The Waze app rerouted us through a Sherman Oaks movie set to beat traffic and make our flight!πŸ˜²πŸ™Œ

The escapades will continue for the Fitness Universe Weekend in June…

So how’s training going?

Just wanted to check in and let y’all know that competition season is fast approaching. Lately, I have been adding more functional training to the circuit and I think we will all see some nice results when I hit the stage next month. My weight lifting routine will transition into more pushes and pulls as I isolate certain areas before I shred. I have also incorporated Buti Yoga: which combines Kundalini, Vanyasana, and plyometrics to build up cardio and strength. These methods along with chiropractic adjustments, massage/trigger points, and stretching has helped with my toning and recovery so far. My diet will be cycling carbs, intermittent fasting, alkaline balance, and protein specific. Please advise that I have adapted and kept track of what my body responds to.  Disclaimer: I will have an entirely different post for those who are interested in how to eat when training.

So ICYMI: Fly haircut, strong core, good food, and tight butt, LOL!

Join us this Saturday at Georgia Dance Conservatory for  BUTI Glow + Flow: Body Paint, Blacklights, and Buti Yoga. It’s an incredible vibe for a great workout without judgement!

Are You Organized?

•January 12, 2017 • Leave a Comment

In my quest to evolve and get better in all areas of my life, I realized that lacking organization has been sabotaging my growth!

So what am I going to do about it? I’m going to clean up and clear the clutter both physically and mentally.

Friend of mine, Β Jaime Bennett isΒ  a tremendous Lifestyle Strategist specializing in helping clients get organized. Check her out at: Β http://www.wemanagelife.com/

Jaime introduced me to bullet journaling, where you keep a journal to bring structure to what may be your crazy, busy life. Β I didn’t even know this was a thing, but now that I’m doing it, I really like it! Picture your calendar, to-do list, and reminders all in a colorful scrapbook! You will find that as you bring all of those together to be concise, that background stress is melting away.Β It's been a doozie of a week over here in Boho Berry land (and it's only Tuesday!) but I had some zen time in my Bullet Journal last night creating this page to welcome in the new year! - I was thinking about a

As I was plugging in bullet journaling ideas on Pinterest, I came across Smart Moms, Smart Ideas. They have a ton of ideas:Β http://smartmomsmartideas.com/ideas-for-bullet-journals/

As a caveat to my “Are You Ready?” post, I’ll be checking in and tracking progress with journaling. I look forward to seeing what great changes we will have in store…

Waist training? No thanks…

Here’s my thoughts on the latest fitness trend…

You definitely beware of gimmicks that are potentially harmful to the body. When it comes to slimming and training the core, nothing can replace the lasting effects of diet and exercise.

The only illumination I need is GOD’S LIGHT!

“In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shine in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” ~ John 1:4-5

Psalms 95:1-2

“Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song”.

Lord, I choose to rejoice & love You…
